Memorial Day Memories

Thanks to a friend's invitation...
...our Memorial Day turned out very memorable this year.
We went to the Golden Gate National Cemetery near the city
and had a great experience paying tribute to the soldiers
who have died for our country. The sea of endless graves was
overwhelming and breathtaking at the same time.

Emily loved the flags that had been posted by each headstone.
If I turned my back on her for too long I would have to
follow the trail of uprooted flags to find our sneaky girl.

This is kind of cool. If you click on this picture you will see it better.
Our friend showed us that each grave is marked for the soldier's religion...
...with a Cross, or the Star of David, and in this case the Angel Moroni.

Here's our little family. The boys were happy to explore and
even though the sky looks ominous in the pictures, it really wasn't too cold.
And thanks again to creative friends, we had a worksheet to follow
to find a headstone from all 50 states and one representing each war.
It really made the day fun as we connected with the memories...
...the start of a good tradition.

Really neat!!! Love the pictures and your new family tradition. I like the religion thing and the cemetery itself reminds me of Arlington National Cemetery. Great idea Janet. Glad you shared your day. Mom in Finland
