9*1*1*

Sunday night we had a little scare while Nate was working on some of his break-dancing moves (this in not a rare occurrence...nor is it a talent he inherited from his parents.) He was perfecting his head spin when suddenly he was crying and saying he heard a "crack" and he was feeling kind of "warm" all over.

Jason called the doctor who said we couldn't transport him without immobilizing him first and recommended we call the paramedics. We both just looked at each other before Jason dialed the phone like, "Are we really doing this?"

At this point, Emily is laying next to her brother trying to be as still as he is and saying, "My neck hurts." She knew something was happening, she just wasn't sure what. Ben was characteristically calm and concerned hoping to be able to go with Nate and stay with him throughout.

The ambulance quickly came, but thankfully gave me enough time to pick up the living room and clear out any crumbs on the floor around Nate :-) The paramedics won their way into this mom's heart immediately with their sweetness and concern for my boy. They were careful and personable as they wrapped and strapped and taped him to a board.

Jason and Nate returned home from the emergency room a few hours later...and all was well...no harm done! Nate said on the ride home, "Dad, our prayers were answered!" He was right.

The kids wrote/drew some "thank you" cards and we took some donuts to the Fire House on Monday. Hopefully we've had our last experience with ER's and sirens for awhile...or forever.

Nate and Ben were back to doing flips on my bed this morning. Needless to say, I put the ca-bosh on that...the paramedics don't need too many donuts.

I can't believe this! I also can't believe that out of the many times I have talked to you, you didn't mention this...so funny. :) Just goes to show we have a lot to talk about.
