Valentine Santa

On Monday we had a Valentine's Day extravaganza. Maybe I was making up for last year's...pregnant and sitting on the couch...Valentine's Day, but this year we went all out; pink pancakes and hanging hearts, flowers, candy and love-notes. It was so fun to decorate and have the kids wake up to read each Valentine at the breakfast table.

After JoySchool I took the littlest ones to the grocery store to grab a couple things for our "heart-shaped-pizza-dinner" and on the way out to the car Emily asked in a surprised voice, "Is today Valentine's Day?" I assured her that it was and asked why she thought she had worn her sparkly heart shirt to school and taken her friends pink pencils and why I had given her a Valentine that morning and she said, "I thought it was because you loved me."

My heart melted for a second and I reminded her about the special dinner and the decorations and the treats and she said, "So Valentine's day is today?" Honestly, I felt as confused as she sounded. But realized I had just assumed my sweet girl knew about the sweetness of this holiday when she asked, "Then where is Valentine Santa?"
