All this boy wanted was a pinata full of smarties and bubble gum (I added some chocolate just for me.) I could call it crazy, but actually it was really great! It meant no invitations, little planning and less cleanup. He had such a fun day and felt special at home and like a king at school...see the crown pictures below...and he got to shoot silly string and bust open a pinata. There's never been a finer birthday. I can't wait to find out what he wants next year; probably cold cereal and a pogo stick.

Happy Birthday, Ben!
You might not be as interested in finding out about my 5 year old's birthday party as I am in telling you about it, but it really was a perfect "five year old" day. This year Ben didn't care about presents...he did open a few, or cake...he chose brownies with ice cream and fudge sauce instead, or having a special birthday breakfast...he went out for lunch with his dad and ordered pancakes, or even having a party...he just invited Brooke and her sister to come over for what mattered most...A PINATA!!!

I appreciated Ben's sweet teacher helping him feel so special. He made his crown with 5 candles, and then he got to sit in the middle of the circle while the class sang and recited a poem and watched him open a present...a new book. He passed out cupcakes and stickers and blew out a candle...he didn't want to show it but he loved being the birthday kid.

What a fun birthday!!!
Looks like so much fun! Way to go Ben! I like your idea of a birthday celebration - simple but special. Great pictures Janet! Love you!
what a sweet boy. and i'll bet he had a blast with a pinata. that's a great idea to do it even without a party. my kids don't get to have a friends party every year, but they would love having a pinata on those off years!
What a stud! Love that kid, I love all your kids. I wish we could come work in Cali forever with you guys. We miss you. I loved hearing about his special day. He is so cute. That picture of him driving Emily is precious I just want to squeeze her face.
