Ben - January 2012

Here's Ben at 8 years old.

Ben's ultimate motivation is watching TV. He will quickly do any job or assignment or activity if it means in the end he can turn on a show. Mostly I use this effectively to my advantage. Occasionally it drives me crazy to think that the DVR brings him so much joy.

Ben has a lot of friends and gets asked to play at someone's house every week. He is quiet and confident, sneaky and funny and athletic. Just last week after church, we were all sitting in the car getting ready to drive away and I heard a little "tap, tap, tap" on the window. When I turned to roll down the window, I saw a cute girl from Ben's primary class. She said, "In case Ben is free this week, here's my number." And she handed me a white piece of paper with her home phone number written on it and quickly walked away. Classic and priceless.

I hope to sit and read chapter books alone with Ben this year.
Of all the kids, this boy is most like me and he needs some time to hear my quiet voice instead of my barking one.
